Specify the experiment before interpreting it
This is a synthetic calculation, not exchange data or a backtest. Use ten units, entry price $100, and an invented fee of 0.20% on each executed leg. Vary only the exit price across $80, $100 and $120. Fees are assumed paid in quote currency without changing the ten-unit quantity.
Entry notional is units × entry price. Exit notional is units × exit price. Total fee is (entry notional + exit notional) × 0.002. The equal-notional approximation instead uses 2 × entry notional × 0.002.

Compare the three reproducible cases
The $2 entry fee is constant. Exit fees change from $1.60 to $2.40 as exit value changes. The equal-notional comparator produces $4 for every case, so it overstates actual modeled fees by $0.40 in the falling-price case and understates them by $0.40 in the rising-price case.
Round monetary results to two decimals for display after calculating. Sources & method links the CSV with every input retained; the formulas above reproduce its three rows; there is no hidden sample selection or external dataset.
| Exit price | Exit notional | Both fees | Gross P&L | Net P&L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $80 | $800 | $3.60 | −$200 | −$203.60 |
| $100 | $1,000 | $4.00 | $0 | −$4.00 |
| $120 | $1,200 | $4.40 | $200 | $195.60 |

Check the result in the existing tools
In the P&L calculator choose long, entry 100, ten units and fee 0.20. Try exits 80, 100 and 120. Compare fees and net P&L with the table. Inputs are manual; the linked tool is not prefilled by this article.
In the fee comparator choose a custom 0.20% rate, $1,000 notional and a round trip. The $4 output answers a different assumption. A disagreement between the two results is expected when exit price differs from entry.

Separate price direction from cost direction
For the same inputs, a short illustration reverses gross price P&L but keeps the two nonnegative notionals and their fees. At exit $80 the model gives $200 gross and $196.40 net. This arithmetic is not a complete model of opening or financing a short position.
If each leg has a different rate, compute entry notional × entry rate plus exit notional × exit rate separately. The current P&L interface accepts a single shared rate, so it cannot represent that extension directly.

What this study cannot establish
Spreads, slippage, partial fills, fee-currency effects, minimum charges, funding, borrowing and taxes are excluded. There are no observed returns, trading recommendations or claims about achievable execution.
Keep units, quote currency and fee convention visible whenever reusing the table. Replacing the invented rate with a provider rate requires a fresh product-specific source check; it does not turn the synthetic price scenarios into market evidence.
