Define the denominator before calculating
Choose whether the exercise covers one wallet, one account or all recorded holdings. Use USD prices from a consistent observation window. Omitting cash, a second account or an unpriced asset changes what the resulting percentages describe.
Value equals units × entered price. Weight equals holding value ÷ included portfolio value × 100. Use current value rather than historical purchase cost for this particular measure. When every entered value is zero, the denominator is zero and weights are undefined, not zero percent.

Reproduce a three-row worksheet
Use fictional assets ALPHA, BETA and GAMMA with the inputs below. The total is $1,000; the largest included row represents 60%. These are invented numbers for checking arithmetic, not suggested holdings or target allocations.
The first two rows have the same quantity but different prices and values. Counting rows or units alone would conceal the difference in concentration.
| Asset | Units | Price | Value | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ALPHA | 3 | $200 | $600 | 60% |
| BETA | 3 | $100 | $300 | 30% |
| GAMMA | 10 | $10 | $100 | 10% |
Distinguish price drift from a new allocation decision
Hold quantities constant and change ALPHA’s entered price to $100. Its value becomes $300 and the new total is $700. The weights are approximately 42.86%, 42.86% and 14.29%; rounding their displayed values can produce a total slightly different from 100%.
No trade occurred in that exercise. A percentage can move because the numerator changes, because other holdings change, or because the scope changes. Save the original inputs when comparing snapshots so a missing row is not mistaken for market movement.
Use the tracker as an input worksheet
Enter the three fictional rows in an empty test browser profile. Read each Value and the Portfolio value total, then perform the divisions outside the tool. The current interface does not show allocation percentages, recommend weights or rebalance holdings.
Before interpreting the result, review duplicate rows, stale prices and currency consistency. Separate entries with the same underlying asset may need grouping in your worksheet. Multiple tickers can also share risks that a simple value percentage cannot measure.

Describe concentration without prescribing trades
Report the scope, observation time, included total and largest weights alongside the result. A statement such as “60% of this entered $1,000 snapshot is ALPHA” is more precise than calling the portfolio diversified or safe.
These weights do not measure liquidity, correlated moves, custody exposure or loss probabilities. There is no universally appropriate percentage implied by the worksheet. Use it to spot questions and data omissions, not as an automatic instruction to buy or sell.
