Enter a fictional holding first
Open the manual portfolio tracker. Enter an Asset / ticker label, Units held, Average cost in USD per unit and Current price in USD per unit, then choose Add holding. A label identifies your row; it does not select a live price feed.
For a teaching row, use DEMO, 2 units, $100 average cost and $110 current price. The model produces $220 of value, $200 of entered cost and $20 of unrealized P&L. All numbers are hypothetical and exclude fees and taxes.
| Field or result | Value |
|---|---|
| Label / quantity | DEMO / 2 units |
| Average cost / price | $100 / $110 per unit |
| Entered cost / value | $200 / $220 |
| Unrealized P&L | $20 before costs |

Read the labels within their scope
The screen’s “Total cost basis” is the sum of quantities multiplied by the average costs you entered. It is a user-entered reference amount, not an acquisition-lot ledger or a tax calculation.
Changing a price changes the current valuation without proving a trade occurred. Editing quantity does not preserve a realized transaction history. If you need those records, keep them separately rather than inferring them from a holdings snapshot.

Update, remove and check a row
Choose Edit beside the holding, change the desired field and use Save holding. Review the units and price before comparing the new total. The last-saved timestamp describes the local save, not the age or reliability of the price.
Remove deletes the selected row from this tracker. Clear portfolio asks for confirmation before clearing the saved holdings. These controls do not close an exchange position, move assets or remove any backups you already exported.

Understand what “on this device” means
Holdings are kept in local storage for this site in the current browser profile. They are not protected by a separate CryptoTrades account login and do not automatically follow you to another browser, profile or device.
Clearing browser site data can remove the saved portfolio. If browser storage is unavailable, the interface warns that changes remain in the tab only and advises exporting before closing. This is not an encrypted vault; a person with access to your browser profile may be able to see the holdings.

Import adds rows rather than replacing everything
Export backup creates a JSON file under your control. The import accepts the supported version-1 format and validates the supplied holdings. In the current implementation it adds imported rows with new internal IDs to existing rows; it is not a deduplicating restore.
Importing the same backup twice can therefore duplicate entries and inflate totals. Before attempting a clean restore, keep a copy of the current export, understand whether you want to clear existing rows, and check the resulting quantities. Treat backup files as private financial records.

Use a repeatable manual-price check
Maintain your own note of where each entered price came from, its currency and the time you observed it. The tracker does not record provider timestamps or verify a quote. A recently saved row can still contain an old manual price.
Use fictional inputs when reporting a problem. Never share private keys, seed phrases, API keys, login details or identifiable portfolio exports with an unsolicited contact. The tool requires none of those to explain the arithmetic.
