Enter a consistent hypothetical scenario
Select Long or Short, then enter entry price, exit price, position size in asset units, and fee rate per side. Prices use USD per unit. A single fee percentage applies to both executions in the current interface.
If your real product applies different entry and exit rates or charges fees in another asset, this model does not represent all those details. Do not combine unlike fee arrangements and call the result an exact account statement. It is a simplified teaching calculation.
Work through a long example
Choose Long with entry $100, exit $110, position size 2 units and fee rate 0.1%. Gross price profit is ($110 − $100) × 2 = $20. Entry notional is $200 and exit notional is $220.
Entry and exit fees total ($200 + $220) × 0.1% = $0.42. Modeled net P&L is $19.58. Return on entry notional is $19.58 / $200 × 100 = 9.79%. None of these example prices is a live quote or forecast.
| Output | Value |
|---|---|
| Gross P&L | $20.00 |
| Total fees | $0.42 |
| Net P&L | $19.58 |
| Return on entry notional | 9.79% |
Read the short calculation within its limits
For a short example with entry $100, exit $90, 2 units and the same 0.1% rate, the gross price result is $20. The combined entry and exit notional is $380, modeled fees are $0.38 and net P&L is $19.62.
That is a sign-adjusted price calculation, not a derivatives position model. It does not check borrowing, funding, collateral, liquidation or execution availability. Short exposures may produce losses beyond an initial deposit, which this return percentage does not describe.
Check what happens when price is unchanged
With both prices at $100 and two units at 0.1% per side, gross P&L is zero and fees total $0.40. Modeled net is therefore negative $0.40. An unchanged price does not imply a cost-free round trip.
Change one input at a time. A fee percentage is charged on notional rather than gross profit, so a small favorable price change can still produce a negative result after the modeled fees.
Do not confuse model net with total net
The tool excludes spread, slippage, transfer charges, financing, funding and taxes. It does not import fills, track realized trades or validate an exchange statement. The output is based on the prices and units you provide.
Displayed money values are rounded. Fractional units and low prices can make rounding more visible. If you need an audit trail, retain your own hypothetical inputs and reproduce the formula; do not use a screenshot alone as a complete record.
Use examples without disclosing account details
Calculations run locally in the browser, without connecting an exchange or requesting credentials. The form does not submit a trade. You can use invented teaching inputs and still learn how the relationship works.
If you want to inspect holdings at manually entered prices instead, use the separate portfolio tracker. That tracker is also not a realized-trade ledger or a tax cost-basis service.
