TOOL WALKTHROUGH

Compare approximate spot fees using your own tier

Walk through notional, maker/taker selection, editable percentages and equal-notional legs without mistaking presets for account quotes.

Decide which question you are modeling

Use the comparator for a narrow percentage-fee question on a fixed notional. It is not an exchange ranking, an order preview or a live price feed. A product name in a preset is a scope label rather than evidence that the rate applies to your account.

Before entering a rate, identify product, pair, region, account tier and the intended execution treatment. The existing public schedule guide explains why Coinbase Exchange and Coinbase Advanced must not be treated as the same fee product.

Enter notional and select an execution assumption

Trade size is a USD notional. Choose Maker or Taker for the column used in the estimate, then inspect the editable percentages beside each row. Editing an unselected column does not change the selected column’s result.

For an invented exercise, set $1,000 notional and use the Custom exchange row at 0.2% in the selected column. One leg gives $2. Entering 0.2 means 0.2%, not a decimal fraction of 0.2 that represents 20%.

Read the round-trip label literally

Changing Trade legs to Round trip applies the same notional twice. At $1,000 and an invented 0.2%, the estimate becomes $4. The tool does not calculate a changed sale value or independently choose a different exit rate.

If a two-unit entry at $100 is followed by an exit at $110, the notionals are $200 and $220. A same-notional shortcut no longer describes both legs exactly. The P&L tool can model separate entry and exit prices, with its own one-rate-per-side limitation.

Treat validation as software scope

Notional must be positive within the tool’s allowed range, and the percentage inputs accept nonnegative values up to the implemented maximum. Those bounds are validation rules, not recommended order sizes or realistic fee benchmarks.

Negative maker rebates are outside this simple model. Do not force a rebate into a positive field or use an invalid input’s missing result as a zero. Blank, non-finite and out-of-range inputs need correction before interpreting an estimate.

Keep excluded costs beside the comparison

Spread, slippage, conversions, funding, borrowing, deposits, withdrawals, network charges and taxes are excluded. A smaller modeled percentage therefore does not establish a cheaper deposit-to-withdrawal route.

Do not increase volume or hold assets merely to reach a hypothetical tier used in an exercise. The comparator does not evaluate the costs or risks of qualifying, nor does it assess custody, execution quality or suitability.

Save the assumptions, not a recommendation

Retain the product, chosen column, rate source, review date, notional and leg count with any copied number. A screenshot of the total without those details is not a reproducible comparison.

Use invented values if the goal is understanding the tool. No account login, exchange connection or wallet secret is required. The calculator changes as you edit fields; it does not submit an order.
