Purpose and token role
Ethereum supports programmable applications through smart contracts. ETH pays transaction fees and supports proof-of-stake security. Applications and tokens built on Ethereum have their own terms and risks; they should not be treated as interchangeable with ETH.

Supply and issuance
ETH supply changes through validator issuance and fee burning. The balance can produce net inflation or deflation; neither outcome is guaranteed. The issuance documentation includes historical examples, not a live issuance quote. We do not reuse those example daily rates as current measurements or present ETH as having a Bitcoin-style hard cap.

Adoption evidence
Visa’s September 2023 announcement describes Crypto.com using USDC on Ethereum to meet settlement obligations for its Australian card program. This is a dated participant-reported operational example. It demonstrates a use of the network for stablecoin settlement, not that cardholders pay in ETH or that all Visa payments use Ethereum.

Risks and limitations
Smart-contract and bridge failures can expose application users to losses independently of ETH’s market price. Validators can face downtime penalties and slashing; pooled arrangements add dependencies. Network adoption is not a guarantee that ETH appreciates, and activity across different layers should not be added together without checking definitions.

Our transparent assessment
Interpretation of the cited evidence, not an overall score. The same three dimensions are used for every asset.
Supply clarity: Dynamic net issuance
The mechanisms are documented, but a forward supply path requires explicit staking and fee-demand assumptions.
Adoption evidence: Reported settlement use
Visa identifies an actual settlement workflow in 2023. Its current scale has not been independently measured here.
Basis: Visa: stablecoin settlement expansion (September 5, 2023)
Risk focus: Application and staking dependencies
The contracts, bridge, or staking service used can change the risk substantially.
What remains unverified
No live net issuance rate, current settlement volume, validator concentration estimate, or application safety audit is supplied.
Project and participant publications can have commercial incentives. We have not independently audited their claims or measured adoption. None of these examples establishes a future price.
