Bitcoin, beyond the price.

A capped issuance model and accessible investment products, with volatility and custody questions that scarcity cannot resolve.

Purpose and token role

Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer payment network whose transactions are recorded on a shared ledger. BTC is its native asset. Mining uses proof of work to extend the ledger; users and node operators decide which consensus rules their software accepts.

Supply and issuance

Under the existing rules, issuance declines through halvings toward a limit of approximately 21 million BTC. That ceiling is not today’s circulating supply. Lost keys can reduce accessible coins without reducing the recorded issuance. We do not estimate lost coins or publish an unverified circulating balance.

Adoption evidence

The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) is an operating exchange-traded product seeking bitcoin price exposure. Its issuer publishes holdings and fund information. This supports a specific claim about investment access; it does not measure everyday payments, unique users, or future demand. Holding fund shares is different from controlling BTC in a wallet.

Risks and limitations

Price volatility, loss of access keys, and reliance on custodians remain material concerns. Network fees and confirmation times affect usability. An exchange-traded product adds its own fees and structure; the issuer explains that IBIT is not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. A supply limit alone cannot establish a fair price.

Our transparent assessment

Interpretation of the cited evidence, not an overall score. The same three dimensions are used for every asset.

Supply clarity: Defined cap

The issuance ceiling is explicit. Accessible supply and future demand are separate, unresolved questions.

What remains unverified

No independent estimate of active owners, lost coins, mining concentration, or investment value is included.

Project and participant publications can have commercial incentives. We have not independently audited their claims or measured adoption. None of these examples establishes a future price.
